“Ever wondered what essential things you need in a dream kitchen? Here are our top 5 ‘must-have’ items for the ultimate modern family kitchen.”

_________

1. Inside / Outside Servery

Almost every Three Birds home has included an inside/outside servery with gas-strut window —

“The gas-strut window in my Forever Home is HUGE – almost so big it can’t be closed! Don’t worry, it can, so we’re all good!”

What I love about my servery is the single slab of Caesarstone® Calacatta Nuvo™ that runs from inside to outside. When the window is open, it’s dimensions are similar to a dining table at 2400mm long x 800mm wide so it becomes an intimate 8-seater which we’ve already been putting to the test with great success. It’s truly my favourite aspect of the kitchen.

_________

Integrated Appliances

We love to use integrated appliances and in my Forever Home kitchen it was important that the whole back wall looked aesthetically consistent. That’s why we bucked the trend of putting the oven at eye level as we didn’t want to interrupt the seamless vision of white cabinetry by sticking in a black oven. Instead we opted for the traditional location for the oven (under the cooktop).

“ Can you spot the fridge? Don’t forget you can integrate them too!”

Ceiling & Skylights

Another key element of our latest kitchen reno was the ceiling. We wanted to make a subtle statement by opting for something other than boring plasterboard so we used v-groove boards to create a panelled look and added cosmetic rafters to hide the joins and create a relaxed coastal vibe. And last but not least we cut in a few skylights above the island to allow natural light to flood the kitchen. Little did we know that when we cut the holes we discovered a gorgeous big palm tree waiting to greet us on the other side – coastal vibe complete!

_________

Stone Splashback

We love to use stone as a splashback as an alternative to more traditional tile. In our latest project, we installed Caesarstone® Calacatta Nuvo™ on both the benchtops and the splashback. For a touch of real luxury we ran the stone right up to the bulkhead and went without overhead cabinets to allow the stone to be the star.

_________

Butlers Office

Ok so perhaps this one isn’t on everyone’s must have list but in today’s modern world we believe a butler’s office is a great way to meet the needs of agile working and kids’ homework. The last thing you want is an office stuck away in another room. The idea for this space was borne out of my desire to combine work and pleasure by being able to make afternoon tea for my kiddies whilst also staying on top of my emails. The aesthetic had to be seamless (there’s that word again!)  so the cabinetry was designed to look just like a continuation of the kitchen.

__________

“Behind the cupboard doors it is fully kitted-out with all your office needs – complete with data points, powerpoints, printer, paper and all that jazz. Oh and did we mention it’s elevated on a platform?!”
